Lions' Amon-Ra St. Brown Details Serious 2023 NFL Injuries on Netflix's 'Receiver'
July 10, 2024
Detroit Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown revealed in the new Receiver docuseries on Netflix that he played through three painful ailments during the 2023 NFL season.
Throughout Receiver (h/t Pride of Detroit's Jeremy Reisman), St. Brown's injury woes are detailed, as are the great lengths he went to in order to play through them.
St. Brown divulged that he suffered a toe injury in Week 2 that required him to wear a steel shank in his cleats, followed by suffering an oblique injury in Week 3.
The Lions played the rival Green Bay Packers on a short week in Week 4, and despite the severity of his injuries, St. Brown gutted it out and played, saying: "Painkillers is something that I really don't like to take unless... unless it's the Packers."
After beating the Packers to improve to 3-1, St. Brown sat out the Lions' Week 5 win over the Carolina Panthers, noting that doctors told him: "You tore your oblique completely off the bone."
St. Brown missed only one game, but before Detroit's Week 8 clash with the Las Vegas Raiders, he was diagnosed with hand, foot, and mouth disease.
His girlfriend, Brooklyn Adams, said St. Brown was "in so much pain" due to the bumps and sores that came along with it.
Even so, St. Brown played in the win over Las Vegas and recorded 108 yards, although Adams described the challenges St. Brown faced, saying: "He was sweating so much that the spots on his hands and his feet turned into open sores and blisters. So he played that entire game with blisters popping."
Despite all of the adversity he faced, the 24-year-old St. Brown was undoubtedly one of the NFL's best wideouts last season, setting career highs with 119 receptions for 1,515 yards and 10 touchdowns en route to Pro Bowl and First Team All-Pro honors.
Given what he accomplished last season, it is scary to think what a healthy St. Brown could potentially do in 2024.
