Caitlin Clark Impresses WNBA Fans with Double-Double Despite Fever's Loss to Mystics
July 10, 2024
Caitlin Clark might be good at this whole basketball thing.
The Indiana Fever guard was sensational in Wednesday's 89-85 loss to the Washington Mystics, dropping 29 points and 13 assists to go along with five rebounds and five steals. She was responsible for 57 of Indiana's 84 points and was the only Fever player to have more than 15.
Holden Snodgrass @SnodgrassHoldenThis is such a pretty assist and Caitlin Clark now with a double double only 5 Rebounds away from her 2nd triple double #WNBA https://t.co/RGSSypCcGa
Clark, who got off to a bit of a rocky start in her WNBA journey, has seemingly found her groove of late. She's recorded double-doubles in four straight games and five of her last six and has scored in double figures in nine straight games. Over her last six games, Clark is averaging 18.0 points and 11.5 assists per game.
Indiana has lost four of those six contests, but there is only so much you can do when rebuilding a team that won just 13 games last season. The Fever have missed the playoffs seven straight seasons overall and will likely make an eighth in 2024, but Clark's transcendence has given them hope for the future.
Ariel Atkins scored a team-high 26 points for the Mystics in their winning effort. Five different Washington players scored in double figures as the team pulled off just its sixth win of the season.
The Fever won't have much time to lick their wounds, as they'll host the Phoenix Mercury on Friday night. The Mystics are off until their Sunday game against the Las Vegas Aces.
