Grant Hill Praises LeBron's Commitment to USA: You'd 'Think He's Year 3, Never Won'
July 10, 2024
LeBron James already owns two Olympic gold medals, but there's no shortage of motivation for him to earn his third.
While speaking to Andscape's Marc J. Spears, USA Basketball's managing director Grant Hill said James' commitment to Team USA has been impressive to watch over the last few months:
"It's a credit to him. At this stage with all that he's done, he wants to do this. When Joel committed. LeBron texted me, 'Good job.' He's in. Not only is he in, he's emotionally invested. I didn't know LeBron that well. I'm a little old school. But I've gotten to know him and connect with him more so over this last year. I've just been impressed with his passion for the game, his passion for USA Basketball and his desires. You would think he's Year 3, never won, hungry. All that he's done, he is approaching this as if he's accomplished nothing. And that's in part what makes him so unique and certainly one of the best to ever do it."
James declined to play in the 2016 Rio Olympics for rest purposes and sat out the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 due to his film commitment to Space Jam: A New Legacy. The Paris Games will be his fourth Olympics, as he won a bronze medal in Athens in 2004.
The 39-year-old is a member of a star-studded Team USA roster that includes fellow former NBA MVPs Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry and Joel Embiid. Fans will certainly be excited to watch James and company try to lead Team USA to a fifth straight gold medal.
