Liv Morgan Defeats Rhea Ripley, Retains Women's World Title at WWE SummerSlam 2024

Liv Morgan beat Rhea Ripley at WWE SummerSlam on Saturday to retain the Women's World Championship.

Dominik Mysterio turned his back on Ripley and helped Morgan secure the gold.

Midway through the match, he had the referee distracted, which allowed Morgan to deliver Oblivion to the challenger onto a steel chair for the win.

If there was any doubt whether Mysterio's actions were an accident, he shared a kiss with Morgan on the entrance ramp outside of the ring.

Earlier in the match, Ripley appeared to have dislocated her shoulder, but she fought through the injury and even attempted to repair the damage by launching herself into the announce table.

The rivalry between Morgan and Ripley dates way back to 2022 when the Australian attacked Liv and ended their partnership, which is clearly something Morgan never forgot.

Ripley later put Morgan on the shelf with an injury in July 2023, causing her to miss six months. After Liv returned as part of the 2024 women's Royal Rumble match in January, she made it her stated goal to get back at Mami via the Liv Morgan Revenge Tour.

Morgan got retribution shortly after WrestleMania 40, as she launched an attack on Ripley, resulting in a shoulder injury that would cost Mami close to three months of action.

Ripley had to vacate the Women's World Championship, and while Becky Lynch initially won the vacant title in a Battle Royal, Liv went on to beat Becky for it at King and Queen of the Ring in May.

Ripley's now-former beau, Mysterio, interfered in the match to stop Morgan from winning, but he inadvertently helped her, as she used the steel chair he slid into the ring.

In the weeks that followed, several more similar scenarios played out, as Morgan continually won matches despite Dominik's best efforts to prevent it from happening.

All the while, Liv attempted to seduce Mysterio, referring to him as "Daddy Dom," and putting him in uncomfortable situations.

Ripley finally returned from injury on the July 8 episode of Raw, catching Dominik and Liv in a compromising position after they beat Rey Mysterio and Zelina Vega in a tag team match.

The following week, Ripley vs. Morgan was made official for SummerSlam, and Dominik spent essentially the entire show trying to get back on Mami's good side.

While Ripley softened her treatment of Dom by the end of the night, there were still plenty of question marks regarding where his loyalty would lie come SummerSlam.

Ultimately, Morgan got the better of Ripley at SummerSlam, but it seems likely that their rivalry is far from over, meaning Mami could get another title shot in the near future.
