Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow is expected to return off the injured list and start Wednesday, July 24 against the San Francisco Giants.

Manager Dave Roberts spoke with reporters Friday prior to the team's home matchup against the Boston Red Sox and provided a positive update on Glasnow after he threw a three-inning simulated game at Dodger Stadium, per Jill Painter Lopez of the Associated Press.

"Really good. His stuff was great. He said he felt good. Back was good," Roberts said. Glasnow is going to throw one more bullpen before his return.

Per Painter Lopez, the 6'8" Glasnow described his injury as follows: "tall-guy back, you just get a little twinge. With the break coming up, they thought it was a good idea to take a little time."

Glasnow has been on the IL since July 9 with back tightness. Roberts told reporters on Sunday, July 7 of the Dodgers' plans to place Glasnow on the IL after his back tightened up on him that day.

The right-hander last took the mound on Friday, July 5. He threw 98 pitches over six innings, striking out seven but allowing five earned runs against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The 30-year-old signed with the Dodgers as a free agent this past offseason after agreeing to a five-year, $136.5 million deal. He earned his first All-Star Game nod this year and went 8-5 with a 3.47 ERA (0.93 WHIP) and 143 strikeouts in 109 innings over the first half of the campaign.

While Glasnow didn't partake in the All-Star Game, he did head to Arlington, Texas, and took in the festivities, notably providing support to teammate Teoscar Hernandez en route to his Home Run Derby win. Also, the All-Star break ultimately allowed Glasnow to miss one fewer start with MLB taking off from its regular-season schedule for four days.

Glasnow's return is a welcome sight for the 56-41 Dodgers, who entered Friday evening with a 6.5-game lead for first place in the National League West but have gone just 18-18 in their last 36 games.

The team has been hit with injuries to key players, most notably Mookie Betts, who has been out with a fractured left hand after being hit by a pitch on June 16 against the Kansas City Royals. Starting pitchers Clayton Kershaw (left shoulder surgery) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (right triceps tightness) are on the 60-day IL.

A healthy Dodgers squad is arguably the best team in baseball, but the team has ultimately dealt with bad luck on the injury front. Thankfully, Glasnow's injury wasn't too serious, and he appears good to go next week.
