Lakers Icon Kobe Bryant's Locker from Staples Center Could Sell for $1.5M at Auction
July 22, 2024
The locker used by late Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant is up for auction.
Sotheby's placed the locker, which Bryant used from 2004 to 2016, up for bidding over the weekend. One person has already placed a $700,000 bid on the collector's item, which is expected to pull up to $1.5 million at auction.
Bryant's locker was set to be destroyed as part of renovations at Staples Center (now Crypto.com Arena) in 2018, but it was saved by a maintenance worker. A collector later purchased the locker and combined it with the nameplate they previously owned.
The collector is now putting the entire lot up for bidding, with part of the proceeds going to the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation.
Bryant played his entire 20-year career with the Lakers, retiring following a 60-point outburst in his final game in 2016.
The Hall of Famer was one of nine people who died in a helicopter crash in January 2020. Bryant's 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, was also among the people killed.
