After a brief stint in the NFL, Elijah Holyfield is reportedly transitioning to a new career.

The 26-year-old, who is the son of legendary boxer Evander Holyfield, is set to participate in the upcoming WWE tryouts in Cleveland during SummerSlam weekend, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.

Holyfield's foray into combat sports will allow him to follow in the footsteps of his father, who once appeared on WWE Saturday Night's Main Event in a boxing match against Matt Hardy.

A former running back, Holyfield spent three years at Georgia and rushed for 1,018 yards and seven touchdowns during his junior season in 2018. He was not selected in the 2019 NFL draft and signed with the Carolina Panthers practice squad as an undrafted free agent.

Holyfield later joined the Philadelphia Eagles and was elevated to the active roster in Week 11 of the 2020 season, though he didn't see any game action. He spent time on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad but hasn't been in the NFL since suffering a knee injury prior to the 2022 season.

Of course, having a football background has proven to be beneficial in wrestling. Former WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns and the legendary Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson are just two of the shining examples of former football players finding success in the squared circle.
