Christian McCaffrey stands head and shoulders above the rest of NFL running backs heading into the release date of Madden 25.

McCaffrey was previously announced as a member of the 99 Club and is three points ahead of every other running back after EA Sports released its ratings for top backs Tuesday.

Here is a look at how the position looks heading into the 2024 season:

  1. Christian McCaffrey, San Francisco 49ers (99 OVR)
  2. Nick Chubb, Cleveland Browns (96 OVR)
  3. Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens (94 OVR)
  4. Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles (92 OVR)
  5. Joe Mixon, Houston Texans (91 OVR)
  6. Travis Etienne Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars (90 OVR)
  7. Josh Jacobs, Green Bay Packers (89 OVR)
  8. Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks (88 OVR)
  9. Aaron Jones, Minnesota Vikings (88 OVR)
  10. Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City Chiefs (87 OVR)

McCaffrey rushed for an NFL-high 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns while adding 67 receptions for 564 yards and seven scores last season. He ran away with the NFL Offensive Player of the Year award and was the offensive focal point for a 49ers team that nearly won a Super Bowl.

The 49ers gave McCaffrey a two-year, $38 million contract extension this offseason, a sign they believe he can keep this pace up as he enters his late 20s.

While it was obvious McCaffrey would be the top RB in the game, the order of the remaining list was always going to be interesting.

Nick Chubb was the highest-rated running back for the release of Madden 24 but suffered a devastating knee injury in Week 2 of last season. It's the second time Chubb has blown out the same knee during his football career. As he approaches his 29th birthday with no clear return date, it's fair to wonder how much time Chubb has left—if any—as an impactful NFL running back.

That didn't matter as much to EA Sports' ratings team, as Chubb remains a stellar 96 overall. That's down only one point from his 97 overall last season.

Derrick Henry also remains among the NFL's best backs in the game despite his 31st birthday coming up in January. Henry will have a new home for the first time in his career after signing with the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason. He remained an impactful back in 2023, rushing for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns despite the struggles of the Titans offense.

Saquon Barkley will also be in a new home in 2024 after leaving the Giants for the division rival Eagles. Barkley should be playing in the best offense of his NFL career and is a candidate for a McCaffrey-like bump in his overall statistics.

Overall, five of the top 10 running backs will be playing for a new team in 2024.
