Morocco Provides Americans With Tough Test

The United States' path to a medal runs through a Moroccan team that has the potential to find the night more than once but has a noticeable weakness the Americans can exploit.

The Atlas Lions have the leading scorer in this tournament in Soufiane Rahimi, who can be a difference-maker when it comes to firing off goals and changing the tone early and often. They also have a leaky defense that can be exploited to the Americans' benefit.

The United States has more depth as far as potential scorers go and a stronger defense. While the Moroccans are a more dynamic team, that can strike fast, the Americans are a more complete team.

As this is the Americans' first quarterfinal appearance since the 2000 games, experience at this level of international play for this roster is nearly nonexistent.

That could be the difference and help propel the Atlas Lions to a victory.

France and Argentina Reignite Rivalry in Quarterfinals

France is unbeaten in Olympic play thus far, outscoring opponents 7-0 in their first three games, and will look to run that record to 4-0 while avenging key losses to Argentina in recent international play.

Argentina won the 2022 World Cup by knocking off The Blues in a penalty shootout. It was a dramatic victory for La Albiceleste and a heartbreaking defeat for a French team that was every bit its equal.

Since then, Argentina has further established itself as an international force with a victory in the Copa America and, were it not for a controversial conclusion against Morocco, would be squaring off with their budding rivals much later in this tournament than the quarterfinal round.

The teams are incredibly even offensively and this game likely comes down to a single goal that separates the winner from the loser. The difference may be the stingy defense of the host country.

France has not allowed a single goal in these Olympic Games and while the Argentinian offense is tougher than anything The Blues have faced to this point, they have been good enough to suggest they can limit their rivals and eek out a victory that advances them to the semifinal round.
