Rara Thomas Dismissed from Georgia Football After July Arrest
August 1, 2024
Rara Thomas has been dismissed from Georgia's football team following his arrest on July 26.
Head coach Kirby Smart told reporters on Thursday he met with Thomas earlier this week to inform him of the decision.
"I met with Rara on Tuesday and had a chance to talk to him face to face, which was important, but I informed him that he could no longer be a part of this team, and he understood that," Smart said.
Thomas was arrested by Athens-Clarke County police and put in jail last week. He spent four days in custody before being released on Tuesday after posting $3,500 bond.
Thomas began his college career at Mississippi State in 2021. He spent two years with the Bulldogs before transferring to Georgia in December 2022.
The 22-year-old appeared in 11 games for Georgia last season. He caught 23 passes for 383 yards and one touchdown.
Thomas was in line for an increased role in 2024 with the Bulldogs needing to replace Brock Bowers, Ladd McConkey and Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint.
