A piece of Los Angeles Lakers history was just sold for a huge price.

Kobe Bryant's locker from the arena formerly known as Staples Center sold for $2.88 million in a Sotheby's auction on Friday. The locker had been photo-matched from at least 2004 until his retirement in 2016.

"If the Staples Center was 'The House that Kobe Built' then this was his room inside that house, a remarkable and intimate artifact that lived Kobe's career with him," Sotheby's wrote in the auction listing.

This locker has dimensions of 98 7/8" x 34 3/4" x 24" and contains wood, metal and plastic.

Bryant's career with the Lakers has already gone down as one of the finest in NBA history. He earned 18 All-Star selections, won five NBA Championships and took home 2007-08 MVP honors. He spent the entirety of his career with the Lakers and finished with 33,643 points—good for fourth all-time.

A portion of the proceeds from the auction were donated to the Los Angeles Lakers Youth Foundation.
