Report: Saints' Taysom Hill Could Play 'Up to 5 Positions' in 2024 NFL Season
August 3, 2024
The New Orleans Saints are planning to use Taysom Hill's versatility to their advantage once again in 2024.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that the Saints are ready for the "Taysom Hill experience" once again but that the team may further expand his usage and let him play up to five positions throughout the 2024 season:
"The Saints are leaning into the Taysom Hill experience, though it could look slightly different than in previous years. After asking around, the expectation is Hill could play up to five positions -- fullback, running back, quarterback, tight end and wide receiver. That doesn't mean he will play all five, but the Saints have those options available. They'd like to get him some traditional tailback/fullback work, for example (he typically takes direct snaps as a runner). They know he can line up wide and believe there could be untapped potential there. But the coaches are creating a vision for him and believe he has more to give. New Orleans still values the unpredictability his versatility lends, and the scheme change shouldn't alter that much. In fact, it might enhance it."
Hill has lined up at quarterback, tight end and wide receiver during his career and has also appeared on special teams. Adding running back and fullback would be new to his workload, but it's something he certainly appears to be capable of.
Hill had 692 yards from scrimmage—including 401 rushing—in 2023 and scored six total touchdowns.
He saw his role as a passer decrease in 2023 as he only had 83 yards and one touchdown.
New Orleans went 9-8 in 2023 and missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season. Maximizing Hill's talent could play a role in returning to the postseason for the first time since 2020.
