Bam Adebayo Trolls Heat for 'Quadruple Single' Stats Post After USA Olympic Win
August 3, 2024
Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo was not impressed by his own stat line during Team USA's group stage win over Puerto Rico Saturday at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"Y'all didn't have to post my quadruple single," Adebayo jokingly responded to the Heat's celebration of his three points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Team USA still dominated in a 104-83 win over Puerto Rico to finish the group stage as the top seed.
That sets up Team USA to face Brazil in the team's first knockout game of the tournament when the quarterfinals begin Tuesday.
The Heat reminded Adebayo of that victory in their response:
Adebayo, who has averaged more than 33 minutes per game for the last five seasons with the Heat, played just 17 minutes as a reserve for a stacked United States roster.
Team USA's scoring was mostly evenly balanced. Outside Anthony Edwards' game-leading 26 points, Jayson Tatum, LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis each contributed double-digit point totals.
But Adebayo wasn't the only star to contribute limited offense to the win. Starters Devin Booker and Steph Curry were held to single-digit point totals, while Tyrese Haliburton and Derrick White contributed two points combined.
It has been difficult for some members of a team stacked with NBA starters to adjust to coming off the bench with fewer minutes and fewer chances to shoot, as Tatum mentioned earlier in the group stage. Adebayo, who was also held to four points in Team USA's Olympic opener against Serbia, would likely agree.
But Adebayo also led Team USA with 18 points in a win over South Sudan. He will remain a key part of the American bench as the team heads into the knockout round.
