The quarterback market has continued to inflate to astonishing levels, with eight different players at the position earning $50 million or more in average annual salary and 16 quarterbacks in total making at least $40 million per season.

Some of those names aren't exactly elite options, either, like Daniel Jones ($40 million in AAV), Kirk Cousins ($45 million), Deshaun Watson ($46 million), Kyler Murray ($46.1 million), Jared Goff ($53 million) and Trevor Lawrence ($55 million), among others.

So when San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is eligible to receive an extension from the team next offseason he's going to get paid, and in a major way. He's not focused on that at the moment, however, as he told Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports:

49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is a season away from potentially becoming the highest-paid player in NFL history. He tells @NFLonCBS: "To be caught up in the money... down the road, I'd be wrong if that's where my mindset was at." pic.twitter.com/MdvSwyBqmi

"Guys talk about [the quarterback market] within the locker room. We all end up hearing about it. For me, that's so far down the road with my situation. I've gotta be present right here, right now at camp. I've gotta be better and grow, right now, so that I can be the best I can be for this team, this year. Obviously we have a goal at hand, going all the way and winning, finishing it, so that's where my mindset is at. To be caught up in the money, all that kind of stuff down the road, I'd be wrong if that's where my mindset was at."

Money has been a pretty huge theme for the Niners this summer, however, with wideout Brandon Aiyuk either seeking a trade or extension as a hold-in at camp and offensive tackle Trent Williams holding out altogether.

One of the reasons the Niners may not splash the cash for an Aiyuk extension or a Williams' contract restructure is that Purdy's big payday is looming. The 24-year-old was forced into starting duties at the end of the 2022 season, thrived in the role and proved it wasn't a fluke in the 2023 campaign.

Last season, he threw for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, completing 69.4 percent of his passes and taking just 28 sacks. He went 12-4 as the starter in the regular season, led the team to the Super Bowl and was named a Pro Bowler for his efforts.

Purdy is an incredible discount for the next two seasons, with a $1 million cap hit in 2024 and a $1.1 million cap hit in 2025. It's very hard to imagine he won't have a long-term extension locked in place before the 2025 campaign begins, however.

He's going to be a very rich man. Right now, however, he's more focused on a ring.
