Competing in her first AEW match after a long and successful run in WWE as Sasha Banks, Moné defeated Willow Nightingale at Double or Nothing in May to win the TBS title.
Mercedes put the title on the line one month later at Forbidden Door against Stephanie Vaquer in a champion vs. champion match, and she both retained the TBS title and won the NJPW Strong Women's Championship in the process.
Following Moné's win over Vaquer, Baker made her surprise to return to AEW programming, appearing for the first time in about nine months.
Baker divulged on the following episode of Dynamite that her lengthy absence was due to a transient ischemic attack, but she noted that she was cleared to compete and ready to return to the top of the AEW women's division.
When Mercedes interrupted Baker as payback for Britt showing up at Forbidden Door, Baker challenged her to a title match, but The CEO initially declined.
Since it was apparent that Baker would not stop pushing for a championship opportunity, Mercedes looked to stack the deck against her by bringing in former NWA world women's champion Kamille to serve as a bodyguard of sorts.
Kamille attacked Baker upon debuting on the July 24 edition of Dynamite, making it clear that Britt would have to overcome several obstacles in order to become champion.
She cleared one hurdle on July 25 when a TBS title match between herself and Mercedes was made official for All In after they had a confrontation at San Diego Comic-Con.
Baker was once the unquestioned face of the AEW women's division, as her 290-day AEW Women's World Championship reign is the second-longest in company history, but Mercedes looked to take over that distinction during her absence.
Although Baker figures to be a key piece of the puzzle in the AEW women's division moving forward, she fell short Sunday of knocking Moné from her perch.
