Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf swung his helmet and connected with the top of teammate K'Von Wallace's helmeted head amid a Wednesday training camp skirmish that NFL Network cameras caught in the background of a televised segment.

Wallace appeared to be acting as peacemaker between Metcalf and cornerback Tre Brown and simply found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Michael-Shawn Dugar of The Athletic provided the context and lead-in to the hit.

"The fisticuffs began earlier in the day. Brown engaged in pushing and shoving with receiver Jake Bobo, who ended up losing his helmet. Brown punched Bobo in the face, and there appeared to be blood on the receiver's jersey after the scrum.

"In the next drill, linebacker Tyrel Dodson and tight end Pharoah Brown shoved each other and got tangled up during a goal line drill. Brown seemed upset that Dodson hit running back Ken Walker III after the play was finished. The very next snap led to the Metcalf and Brown fight."

An NFL Network clip that appeared on X shows Metcalf and Brown arguing before the wideout charged the defensive back and swung his helmet. The object hit the top of safety Wallace's helmet, which was covered with a soft-shell Guardian Cap. Per Dugar, Wallace appeared uninjured and was even able to finish practice.

Seahawks first-year head coach Mike Macdonald spoke with Tom Pelissero of NFL Network after the fight and had this to say when the insider asked him about the line between intensity and competition versus something like an incident seen Thursday (40-second mark).

#Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald joined me on The Insiders to talk about preparing for his first game, the return of Geno Smith and how he — and DK Metcalf — handled a particularly heated practice today. pic.twitter.com/UjEEMLldMl

"We're right on the line right now," Macdonald said.

"I think the guys realize that. You know, let's take care of one another. Definitely don't want people fighting out here, especially against our own teammates. And then DK gave a great message at the end of practice, just kind of putting everything in perspective. The guys finished it out the right way. So, proud of our guys."

Macdonald notably stopped practice for a moment after the incident to address the team, and Pelissero asked about that as well.

"It was positive. And the guys are in a good spot. But just remind them why we're out here, what we're trying to get accomplished, take a deep breath and let's finish practice the right way. And we did."

No one was kicked out of practice after that incident, but outside linebacker Derick Hall and guard Christian Haynes both got the boot after a shoving match during a lineman drill, per Dugar.

The Seahawks have gone through two weeks of training camp practices in the heat of the summer, so it's no surprise that tempers have flared, just like they have at many NFL camps over the years.

But now they'll look to get down to business in earnest Saturday when they visit the Los Angeles Chargers for their first preseason game. Their first regular-season matchup is at home against the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 8.
