Cowboys Rumors: Chuma Edoga to Miss Extended Time with Toe Injury
August 13, 2024
The Dallas Cowboys reportedly suffered a serious blow to their offensive line during Sunday's preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams.
According to ESPN's Todd Archer, Cowboys veteran left tackle Chuma Edoga suffered a toe injury during the game that will "force him to miss time into the regular season."
Archer noted that Edoga suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's game and was seen wearing a walking boot afterward. He underwent an MRI on Monday, but a decision has not yet been made on whether he will require surgery.
In his first year in Dallas in 2023, Edoga appeared in all 17 games and made six starts while splitting time between guard and tackle. The Cowboys re-signed him to a one-year deal in April.
Losing Edoga puts pressure on rookie offensive tackle Tyler Guyton, who was drafted by Dallas with the No. 29 pick this year. The 22-year-old played 21 snaps against the Rams and said he was satisfied with his performance after being limited in practice during the previous week due to a virus.
"I thought I did pretty good, handled my business," Guyton said after the game. "Things to work on, of course, but got the butterflies out."
Archer noted that Edoga had been taking the majority of first-team reps early in training camp, but Guyton also began to mix in with the No. 1 offense at times. The Oklahoma product will now be counted on as the blindside protector for star quarterback Dak Prescott.
With Edoga sidelined, Asim Richards and Matt Waletzko will have more of an opportunity to compete for the role of swing tackle for the Cowboys.
