NFL Rumors: Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, Browns Agree to $39M Contract; $25M Guaranteed
August 14, 2024
Pro Bowl linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah and the Cleveland Browns reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension on Wednesday.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the deal is worth up to $39 million, and it will pay Owusu-Koramoah $25 million guaranteed.
The 24-year-old linebacker was a second-round draft pick out of Notre Dame in 2021, and he earned the first Pro Bowl selection of his young career last season.
After experiencing some injury issues over his first two NFL seasons, Owusu-Koramoah played in a career-high 16 games last season and produced career highs across the board with 101 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions and six passes defended.
Owusu-Koramoah's play was a big reason the Browns led the NFL in total defense last season, surrendering just 270.2 yards per game.
With Owusu-Koramoah leading the way, the Browns reached the playoffs with an 11-6 record, ending a two-year drought.
Although they were crushed 45-14 by the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card Round, Owusu-Koramoah made several impressive plays in the game, finishing with nine total tackles and four tackles for loss.
Owusu-Koramoah is the unquestioned leader of the Browns' linebacker corps, and he has helped give the Browns an elite player at each level of their defense along with pass-rusher Myles Garrett and cornerback Denzel Ward.
With running back Nick Chubb set to return healthy for the 2024 season after missing nearly all of 2023, the Browns have the makings of a team that will hang their hats on a strong running game and tough defense.
Owusu-Koramoah will be a significant part of the equation, and with his new contract in tow, that will continue to be the case for years to come.
