Venezuela 2, Aruba 1
Venezuela walked it off — literally and figuratively — in a 2-1 victory over Aruba.
On a full count with the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, Jhonson Freitez watched Henry Kransen's pitch hit the dirt and go to the backstop. That allowed Simón Vicheria to come home with the winning run.
Venezuela tied the game earlier in the inning on a wild pitch by Kransen. Aruba decided to intentionally walk Luis Yepez to set up a force-out situation at home, but the free pass proved consequential for a different reason moments later.
José Pérez and Willian's Mora each pitched three innings for Venezuela and combined for 10 strikeouts. They both kept Aruba's hitters guessing at the plate and very nearly had a shutout.
Center fielder Samuel Carrasquel was inches away from keeping Aruba off the board in the first inning. But Nishant Toledo's sinking line drive got just under his glove.
That was just one of three hits for Aruba across the entire game, though.
Hawaii 3, Pennsylvania 1
Hawaii fended off a late comeback attempt by Pennsylvania to secure a 3-1 win in Tuesday's second game.
The Hawaiians manufactured a pair of runs in the first inning to grab an early lead.
A sacrifice fly by Kanon Nakama scored Gauge Pacheco before Pennsylvania fell victim to some savvy baserunning tactics. Catcher Wes Esteves threw down to second base with Hayden Takahashi moving to the bag, but the attempted steal was merely a ploy to set up Brextyn Kamaha'o Hong's pilfer of home.
Hawaii added an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to apply more pressure to Pennsylvania ahead of its final turn in the batter's box.
The group from Council Rock Newtown Little League made things interesting with Will Siveter delivering an RBI single. After a walk to Tyler Wexler, Dean Hamilton represented the go-ahead run at the plate, but Nakama struck him out to end the contest.
Mexico 6, Cuba 4
In perhaps the most dramatic game of the LLWS so far, Mexico stormed back with five runs in the sixth inning to beat Cuba 6-4.
The Matamoros Little League team was down to its final out when Antonio Guerrero drilled a three-run home run over the left-field fence, tying the game at 4-4.
Pitching for Cuba, Denis Zamora got to an 0-2 count before hitting Raul Hernandez Jr. and sending him to first base. Zamora rallied to get two quick strikes on Ulises Ortiz before his ability to put the hitter away was costly once again. Ortiz got a pitch through the heart of the zone and took it deep for the game-winning dinger.
It doesn't get much more storybook than having go-ahead and walk-off homers in an elimination game.
Florida 6, New York 1
Led by DeMarcos Mieses' three-run homer and Lathan Norton's six strikeouts, Florida kept it's Little League World Series hopes alive, defeating New York 6-1 on Tuesday.
Florida blew the game wide open in the top of the sixth, pushing four runs across the plate. The Floridans will face the West Region champions on Wednesday.
