FedEx Cup Standings 2024: Points Leaderboard Before BMW Championship
August 21, 2024
Scottie Scheffler can only be removed from the top spot in the FedEx Cup standings by one golfer.
It would take a perfect week from Xander Schauffele at the BMW Championship for him to even have a chance of taking over the top position from Scheffler.
The BMW Championship winner earns 2,000 FedEx Cup points. Schauffele is the only golfer within 2,500 points of Scheffler.
While the math at the top is simple, the calculations around 30th place, the cut off for the Tour Championship, will happen up until the 72nd hole at Castle Pines Golf Club.
FedEx Cup Standings
1. Scottie Scheffler - 6,532 points
2. Xander Schauffele - 5,037
3. Hideki Matsuyama - 3,898
4. Collin Morikawa - 2,596
5. Rory McIlroy - 2,559
6. Wyndham Clark - 2,504
7. Ludvig Aberg - 2,146
8. Sahith Theegala - 2,076
9. Patrick Cantlay - 2,017
10. Sungjae Im - 1,950

Scheffler needs to finish alone in fourth place or better to clinch the No. 1 spot in the FedEx Cup standings going into the Tour Championship.
The No. 1 spot is important because that golfer begins next week at 10-under. There is a staggered starting score system after that in which the 26th-30th place golfers start at even-par.
The only way Scheffler loses out on the top spot is if Schauffele wins the BMW Championship and Scheffler finishes in a tie for fourth or worse.
The scenarios everywhere else in the FedEx Cup standings will be determined by multiple results.
Fifty golfers compete in the BMW Championship, but 20 will not make it to the Tour Championship.
Winning is the easiest way for Tommy Fleetwood and everyone ranked 31st-50th to clinch a Tour Championship berth because that comes with 2,000 FedEx Cup points.
Even a high finish in Colorado could take a player from outside the bubble to inside the top 30. Nick Dunlap went from outside the top 50 to inside with a tie for fifth at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The golfers outside the bubble all have a minimum finish they need to hit to have a shot at qualifying for the Tour Championship.
For example, Fleetwood, who is 31st, need a minimum finish of a two-way tie for 48th. PGATour.com outlined all of the minimum finishes needed for players outside the top 30.
Fleetwood, Max Homa, Will Zalatoris, Adam Scott and Corey Conners are among the notable names outside the top 30 going into the BMW Championship.
Plenty of movement will take place within the top 30 as well since less than 1,000 points separates Collin Morikawa in fourth from Matthieu Pavon in 20th.
Scheffler, Schauffele and St. Jude Championship winner Hideki Matsuyama are the only golfers with true separation in the standings going into the second leg of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
