The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly added to their tight end room Tuesday.

According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Kansas City acquired Peyton Hendershot via trade from the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas received a 2026 conditional seventh-round pick for Hendershot, who was reportedly in jeopardy of being cut.

Kansas City already has one of the best tight ends in NFL history in Travis Kelce, but the future Hall of Famer will turn 35 years old this season.

The 25-year-old Hendershot will have the opportunity to learn under an all-time great and perhaps work his way into multiple tight-end formations if he can get acclimated quickly.

The Indiana University product was a secondary contributor at best during his two seasons with the Cowboys. He finished his rookie campaign in 2022 with 11 catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns and then had four catches for 38 yards last year.

He also had just one catch for 10 yards during the preseason this year.

From the Cowboys' perspective, this move allows them to get something back in return for a player who wasn't going to be part of their 2024 roster. From the Chiefs' perspective, a change of scenery may help Hendershot take the next step and develop into more of an offensive weapon.

Hendershot's new team begins the season on Sept. 5 in an AFC Championship Game rematch against the Baltimore Ravens.
