Kings' DeMar DeRozan Hypes LeBron James at 2022 Drew League, Says 'S--t Was Amazing'
August 27, 2024
NBA players making appearances at the Drew League in the summer has become an annual tradition, but one appearance stood out among the others in 2022.
And DeMar DeRozan reminisced about it during an appearance on the Club 520 Podcast (42:15 mark).
"Just to see how electrified the city was," he said when discussing LeBron James' decision to join him for a game. "I'm big on looking into the crowd and seeing kids' reactions. … For bro to do that, that s--t was amazing."
ESPN's Dave McMenamin noted in 2022 that James and DeRozan teamed up to lead the MMV Cheaters to a dramatic 104-102 victory over Black Pearl Elite during a game in Los Angeles' famous pro-am league.
James posted 42 points, 16 rebounds, four steals and three assists, while DeRozan added 30 points and 14 rebounds. The tandem led a fourth-quarter comeback just when it seemed like they might lose.
It was the King's first appearance at the Drew League since 2011, which happened during the NBA lockout.
James is one of the greatest athletes in sports history and a basketball icon, so his appearance surely created lifelong memories for many of the fans in attendance. It even created one for DeRozan, which was clear when listening to him speak about it.
