Video: Will Levis Reveals Prank Call During 2023 NFL Draft Slide; QB Saved Number
August 28, 2024
Will Levis hasn't forgotten the prank call he received as he was waiting to get selected by a team in the 2023 NFL draft.
The Tennessee Titans quarterback revealed on Bussin' With the Boys he saved the number after getting a prank phone call during the first round of the draft.
There was some expectation in the draft that Levis was going to be a top-10 pick. He was the 10th-ranked player on the consensus big board and No. 4 quarterback, behind Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson.
While Young, Stroud and Richardson were taken in the top four picks, Levis found himself waiting in the green room until the second round. The Titans traded up to acquire the No. 33 pick and select Levis.
The team that made the 29th pick was the New Orleans Saints after the selection was traded three different times. It originated with the San Francisco 49ers, but was sent to the Miami Dolphins as part of the Trey Lance trade package.
Miami traded it to the Denver Broncos during the 2022 season in the Bradley Chubb deal. Denver sent it to the Saints during the offseason to acquire the rights to head coach Sean Payton.
Even though the Saints had just signed Derek Carr earlier in the offseason, they could have justified taking Levis because of the value of getting him in the back of the first round. Instead, they took Clemson defensive tackle Bryan Bresee.
Despite not having the perfect draft experience, which apparently included a prank call, Levis is in a situation with the Titans where he will be on the field to open the 2024 campaign. He started nine games as a rookie, throwing for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns and four interceptions.
Levis will be tasked with getting the Titans back on track coming off back-to-back losing seasons. They are looking to avoid having three consecutive losing seasons for the first time since 2012 to '14.
