Simone Biles Reacts to Husband Jonathan Owens' Scoring TD for Bears vs. Titans
September 8, 2024
Legendary Olympic gymnast Simone Biles was excited after her husband, Chicago Bears safety Jonathan Owens, scored a touchdown on Sunday.
In the third quarter of the Bears' Week 1 matchup with the Tennessee Titans, linebacker Daniel Hardy blocked a punt by Ryan Stonehouse. Owens scooped up the ball and ran into the end zone to cut Chicago's deficit to 17-10 entering the fourth quarter.
Biles is coming off a dominant performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She accumulated four total medals which included three golds, bringing her overall total to 11. Biles earned gold in the women's vault and individual all-around events while also helping the United States secure a spot on top of the podium in the team competition.
Although Chicago's training camp started before Biles was set to perform, Owens was allowed to miss practices in order to make the trip to Paris and witness her become the most decorated U.S. gymnast in Olympic history.
"I was just excited that I was able to sit there and I was able to witness it and experience the energy, the culture and just watch everyone react to her," Owens said after watching her compete, via Eric Edholm of NFL.com.
The 29-year-old spent the 2023 season with the Green Bay Packers before he joined the Bears on a two-year contract worth $4.75 million in free agency. In 17 appearances with the Packers, Owens recorded 84 tackles and two passes defensed to go along with a forced fumble.
Chicago's defense and special teams continued to help Caleb Williams as the No. 1 overall pick made his first career regular-season start. Later in the fourth quarter, Tyrique Stevenson intercepted a pass from Will Levis and returned it 43 yards for a go-ahead touchdown.
