Canelo Álvarez will be back in action with the latest defense of his WBA, WBC and WBO super middleweight belts against undefeated challenger Edgar Berlanga at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Álvarez is sticking to the schedule that he's established in recent years, with a bout around Cinco de Mayo with a follow-up in September.

This particular fight should give us an opportunity to see just how far ahead Álvarez is compared to the younger, up-and-coming fighters in the division. The 27-year-old has risen up the ranks with a 22-0 record that includes 17 knockouts. His latest outing was a sixth-round TKO of Padraig McCrory, but he's about to see a massive step up in competition.

It's a major event anytime Álvarez steps into the ring, so this one is sure to attract a lot of attention. Here's a look at all the info you need to catch the fight, a prediction and a preview of the championship bout.

As the odds would indicate, this looks like a matchup Álvarez should dominate. This is far from the first time a promising challenger has come to fight Canelo, and as long as he's operating close to maximum capacity, this should be a relatively easy night at the office for him.

Álvarez has assured those who might be concerned about his decline that he's about to show that he's still at the top of the game.

"I just want to show everyone that I'm still the best," he said during a pre-fight press conference. "I still love this sport. When I stop loving it, you'll know. I love my routine and I love going to the gym every day."

At the same time, Berlanga understands the work that lies before him and doesn't plan on squandering the opportunity.

"This is the opportunity of a lifetime," Berlanga said at the same press conference. "It's gonna be a firefight this weekend. ... I'm gonna make everyone a believer. We have Puerto Rico vs. Mexico, and we're going at it on Saturday night."

The Mexico vs. Puerto Rico angle is a good way to sell the fight, but Berlanga isn't getting much respect from the oddsmakers, and it's easy to see why.

The Puerto Rican started his career off with a string of first-round knockouts, but his power numbers have decreased as the competition has gotten better. He only has one knockout in his last six fights.

Berlanga does have a reach advantage. At 6'1" with a 73-inch reach, he will make Álvarez look small in the ring. His ability to utilize his jab and take advantage of that reach will be key if he's going to make things interesting.

The more likely scenario is that Álvarez's wealth of experience and superior skills win out here. Berlanga is a fighter who thrives when he can control the pace of the bout and push the pace when he wants to.

That's not something that Álvarez is going to allow him to do. He's going to close the distance, invite Berlanga to throw punches and expertly counter them.

It might not be enough to get a decision, but it should be enough to comfortably win the fight and keep those belts around his waist.
