Packers' Malik Willis on Beating Titans After Trade: 'All Wins Count the Same'
September 22, 2024
Less than a month after being traded away from the Tennessee Titans, Malik Willis helped lead the Green Bay Packers to a dominant 30-14 victory over his former team.
However, Willis isn't feeding too much into the revenge storyline, telling reporters after the victory against the Titans, "All wins count the same."
The Titans, who selected Willis with a third-round pick in the 2022 NFL draft, traded him to the Packers on Aug. 26 after opting to move forward with second-year quarterback Will Levis as their starter. Willis was thrust into action when Green Bay lost starting signal-caller Jordan Love to a sprained MCL in the Sept. 6 season-opening loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and he's led the team to back-to-back wins against the Indianapolis Colts and the Titans.
Against Tennessee, Willis played a blemish-free game with 202 yards and a touchdown on 13-of-19 passing while adding a team-high 73 rushing yards and another score with no turnovers. Meanwhile, Levis made one mistake after another, losing a fumble and throwing two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown by Packers star Jaire Alexander.
Willis' ability to steady the ship for Green Bay in Love's absence surprised many around the league and earned praise from his head coach.
"What he's been able to do, I've never seen anything like this," Matt LaFleur told reporters after Sunday's win.
Love was listed as questionable for the game against Tennessee before ultimately being ruled out, so he could be getting closer to a return. However, Willis' performance could allow Love to rest a bit longer to ensure he's fully healthy when he gets back onto the field.
The Packers (2-1) will try to make it three wins in a row when they meet the NFC North-leading Minnesota Vikings (3-0) in Week 4.
