NFL Rumors: Tom Brady Unlikely to Call Patriots' W5 Game; Expected for 49ers-Cards
September 29, 2024
New England Patriots fans will reportedly likely have to wait to hear Tom Brady call one of the team's games.
"Barring an unexpected change in the coming days, Tom Brady isn't scheduled to work the Patriots' Week 5 home game against the Dolphins, which will be broadcast on Fox," ESPN's Mike Reiss reported Sunday. "A source familiar with his schedule expects he will call the Cardinals-49ers game."
While Brady returning to Gillette Stadium would be a storyline itself, the actual game isn't an intriguing one for Fox's top broadcast crew.
Miami and New England are each 1-2, and the Dolphins are playing without quarterback Tua Tagovailoa because of a concussion. They were overwhelmed in a 24-3 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in their first full game after his injury and didn't look the part of a Super Bowl contender.
As for the Patriots, they are in rebuilding mode with first-year head coach Jerod Mayo.
They surprised with a Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals but are coming off their own 24-3 loss at the hands of the New York Jets. Things don't get much easier Sunday either with a road matchup against the talented San Francisco 49ers.
There will surely come a day when Brady gets to call a game in New England.
And he will surely be greeted by the fans as the franchise icon he is after delivering six Super Bowls as arguably the greatest player in NFL history. But it doesn't seem like that day will come when the Patriots host the Dolphins in Week 5.
