The Indianapolis Colts will go for their third straight win this Sunday without Jonathan Taylor.

Head coach Shane Steichen announced on Friday that an ankle injury will keep Taylor out against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Trey Sermon, who had five carries last week after replacing Taylor, will be in line to get the start.

Taylor suffered the injury midway through the fourth quarter of Sunday's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. His ankle got caught under the body of DeShon Elliott during a tackle.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Taylor downplayed the severity of the injury.

"Feeling pretty good," he said. "We came out with the win, so I'm excited to attack this week."

Taylor's injury occurred after Anthony Richardson left in the first quarter with a hip injury. The second-year quarterback has been a limited participant in practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

Steichen hasn't announced Richardson's status for Sunday, but The Athletic's James Boyd noted Joe Flacco was taking "most, if not all" first-team reps during Friday's practice.

The Colts have not formally announced Taylor's injury. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday the 25-year-old was diagnosed with a mild version of a high-ankle sprain.

Taylor previously suffered a high-ankle sprain during the 2022 season that kept him out for the final three games. He is off to a strong start this season with 349 yards and four touchdowns on 72 rushing attempts.

Sermon is in his second season with the Colts. He has nine carries for 24 yards and one touchdown in four games. The 25-year-old was a third-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in 2021 and spent one season with the team before being claimed off waivers by the Philadelphia Eagles in September 2022.

The Colts signed Sermon to their practice squad in September 2023. He was promoted to their active roster prior to Week 3 last year. He has appeared in 18 games over the past two seasons.
