Kirby Smart Says He Was 'Disappointed' by Georgia Fans' Energy During Win Over Auburn

No. 5 Georgia bounced back from its loss to No. 4 Alabama with a 31-13 win over Auburn on Saturday, but head coach Kirby Smart wasn't pleased with how the home crowd at Sanford Stadium showed up for the Bulldogs.
Per ESPN, Georgia had an announced sellout of 93,033, but Smart felt they weren't loud enough and some even left early. The game didn't feature the home-field advantage that Smart was used to having.
"To be honest, I'm probably disappointed in our fans for the first time," Smart told Georgia radio network sideline reporter and former Bulldogs quarterback D.J. Shockley of Atlanta's WAGA TV after the game. "I thought there was a lack of really affecting the game crowd-noise wise, passion and energy."
Smart stood by his point while speaking to reporters on Monday.
"I think I said what I said and stand by what I said and feel it could have been better, but my job is to coach the football team and I'm going to do the best I can in my power," he said.
The Bulldogs have now won 27 straight home games dating back to 2019, the longest streak in program history and the longest active streak among FBS teams.
Georgia is gearing up for another SEC matchup in Athens on Saturday against Mississippi State, so Smart is hoping the fans will bring the noise and help the Bulldogs earn a second straight win.
"You win these games at home and maybe you take it for granted if you win so many games at home," Smart said. "But I know this. It's hard. These teams going on the road across the SEC, you make it hard on them by what you do and what you create. ... It's about us all pulling in the same direction."
