Los Angeles Lakers superstar and NBA legend LeBron James was announced as the honorary chair for the 2025 Met Gala on Wednesday.

According to Vogue's Leah Faye Cooper, James will be joined by several co-chairs, including seven-time Formula One racing champion Lewis Hamilton.

The Met Gala is fashion event fundraiser held annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City, and the 2025 edition is scheduled for May 5.

Per Cooper, the theme of the 2025 Met Gala is "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." In conjunction with the exhibition, the Costume Institute also named musicians A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams, and actor Colman Domingo as co-chairs.

The 39-year-old James is in the conversation for greatest basketball player of all time, and he remains one of the most influential athletes in the world.

A 20-time All-Star, four-time NBA MVP, four-time NBA champion and four-time NBA Finals MVP, James is set to enter his 22nd season, but he continues to perform at an elite level.

As the oldest player in the NBA last season, James averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds per game for a Lakers team that reached the playoffs.

He also helped Team USA win an Olympic gold medal in basketball over the summer with FIBA naming him tournament MVP at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.

Despite his eye for fashion and status as a pop culture icon, 2025 will mark James' first-ever appearance at the Met Gala, according to Cooper.

Conversely, Hamilton is a Met Gala veteran, having attended the event regularly since 2015.

Much like James is arguably the greatest basketball player of all time, an argument can be made for Hamilton being the greatest driver in motorsports history.

The 39-year-old veteran is tied with Michael Schumacher for the most F1 points titles with seven. He also ranks first in race wins with 105 and poles with 104.

In the midst of his final season with Mercedes, Hamilton has two wins and is sixth in the F1 standings. Starting next season, Hamilton will make the move to Ferrari after signing a multi-year contract with the team.
