Michael Jordan's Jersey Worn During Allen Iverson's Epic Crossover to Sell for $4M-6M
October 10, 2024
Michael Jordan's legendary NBA career was filled with countless milestones and achievements, but one lucky bidder will have the chance to own a game-worn jersey from a rare moment His Airness might want to forget.
Sotheby's revealed Thursday it is offering a game-worn red Chicago Bulls Jordan jersey from the 1996-97 season.
It was the jersey Jordan was wearing on March 12, 1997 when then-rookie sensation Allen Iverson crossed him up in a highlight that has become one of the most famous of the Philadelphia 76ers legend's career.
Sotheby's, which also sold Jordan's game-worn 1998 NBA Finals Game 1 jersey for $10.1 million in 2022, estimates the jersey will sell for $4-6 million.
While Jordan was wearing the jersey during the Iverson crossover, he also donned it for at least 17 games over the span of five months. So that means there were plenty of moments when the five-time MVP thrived while wearing it.
After all, that 1996-97 season was an excellent one for No. 23.
He led the league in scoring with 29.6 points per game and finished second in MVP voting. He was also an All-NBA First-Team selection and All-Defensive First-Team selection.
Most notably, Jordan led the Bulls to their second straight title in the middle of what would become the second three-peat of his career. It marked the fifth ring of a career that ended with six, and he was at his best when it mattered most while averaging 32.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game in the NBA Finals win over the Utah Jazz.
As for Iverson, he won the Rookie of the Year during that season, which was his first major accomplishment in a Hall of Fame career that included a league MVP, four scoring titles, seven All-NBA selections and 11 All-Star nods.
Iverson is one of the few players in NBA history who can at least compete with Jordan when it comes to career highlights, and Sotheby's is giving fans the opportunity to own a piece of memorabilia that connects the two legends.
