DeAndre Hopkins Trade Rumors: Titans Not 'Eager' to Deal WR amid Davante, Amari Deals
October 16, 2024
Two big-name NFL wide receivers were traded Tuesday after Davante Adams went from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets and Amari Cooper left the Cleveland Browns for the Buffalo Bills.
There's also natural speculation that Tennessee Titans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, a three-time First Team All-Pro and impending free agent, could be headed elsewhere.
However, don't expect the 32-year-old to join that group of pass-catchers on the move, at least not now.
Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler: "The Chiefs liked DeAndre Hopkins in 2023 free agency, but Tennessee isn't eager to deal him as of now, and he likes playing in Tennessee. I don't get the sense he's angling to get out of there."
The Titans are struggling at 1-4 through five games, and there isn't much hope for a turnaround, especially with a brutal schedule looming.
Five of their next seven games are on the road, and six of them are against teams with winning records. Up next are back-to-back road tilts with the 4-2 Buffalo Bills and 4-1 Detroit Lions.
So this could get ugly quick, and in theory, the Titans could deal Hopkins to a wideout-needy team before the Nov. 5 trade deadline and hope for some draft compensation in return.
However, at this moment, it appears it'll be status quo with Hopkins in Nashville.
Last season, Hopkins enjoyed a successful campaign, catching 75 passes for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns.
This season has not been as kind, although Hopkins is playing through a torn MCL that has limited his snaps, to the point where he has only played a career-low 43 percent of the time, per Pro Football Reference.
Hopkins has caught just 14 passes for 175 yards and one touchdown through five games. He has picked it up a bit of late though after a slow start that saw him catch just two passes for 17 yards on three targets through two weeks.
Undoubtedly, there should be some interest in Hopkins, even if he's not keen on moving and the Titans are unwilling to part ways.
And there isn't a shortage of teams needing wideouts out there, perhaps the Pittsburgh Steelers (who were in on Brandon Aiyuk before he stayed with the San Francisco 49ers) and the Kansas City Chiefs (who could use another wideout after losing Rashee Rice for the season).
But for now, Hopkins stays with the Titans, and he'll look to help bring the team back on the winning track in Buffalo on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
