Report: Romeo Doubs, Packers 'Have Moved Past' Suspension Ahead of NFL Trade Deadline
October 16, 2024
After being suspended for one game earlier this month due to missed practices, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs has reportedly returned to the organization's good graces.
According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, "Things appear to have settled between the Packers and Romeo Doubs, so I don't see him as a major trade target as of now. One source said both sides 'have moved past [the Week 5 suspension] and are focusing on football.'"
The Packers announced before their Oct. 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams that Doubs was suspended for "conduct detrimental to the team." ESPN's Rob Demovsky reported that the 24-year-old missed two days of practice and meetings, and sources said his absence "was not injury related or because of a family matter." Sports Illustrated's Bill Huber reported at the time that Doubs skipped the team sessions because he was "upset with his opportunities in the passing game."
Entering the game against the Rams, Doubs had only 11 catches for 169 yards and hadn't found the end zone, a step well below what was expected of him following his promising sophomore season in the NFL in 2023 where he posted eight touchdown catches. Despite his absence against Los Angeles, Green Bay still earned a 24-19 win.
Still, Doubs didn't let the suspension hurt his morale, as he returned to action this past Sunday and scored two touchdowns in a 34-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
"I was able to get back to my regular self, you know?" Doubs said after his strong performance. "Despite what was going on, I just had to do the best of my ability, just limiting those distractions, and ultimately, it paid off."
Now that he has a clear path forward with Green Bay, Doubs will try to help the team earn its third straight win when it faces the Houston Texans on Sunday.
