As Davante Adams prepares to play his first game with the New York Jets on Sunday, the star wide receiver will be wearing a familiar number.
The Jets announced on Wednesday that Adams will wear his traditional No. 17 that he has used throughout his NFL career.
Aaron Rodgers elected to change his jersey number when he was traded to the Jets. No. 12 has been retired by the franchise since 1985 in honor of Joe Namath, but the Pro Football Hall of Famer did say he would have no problem with Rodgers wearing it if he wanted to.
Instead, Rodgers went with the No. 8 that was his jersey number in college at California.
No. 17 has been popular among Jets receivers lately. Garrett Wilson used it for his first two seasons before switching to No. 5 in 2024. Rookie Malachi Corley was wearing the number, but he will switch to No. 14 to accommodate Adams.
It's unclear at this point if Adams negotiated some sort of deal with Corley for the number. Corley wore the No. 21 during his college career at Western Kentucky, so there doesn't seem like he has a long connection to the No. 17.
Adams has used No. 17 throughout his entire professional career since being drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2014.
Despite missing the past three weeks while he was a member of the Las Vegas Raiders and being acquired five days before the Jets' Week 7 game, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Adams plans to play on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
If Adams suits up for the Jets this week, it will mark the first game he has played with Rodgers since a 13-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Divisional Round playoff game on Jan. 22, 2022.
The Jets (2-4) have lost three straight games and are in third place in the AFC East.
