Jets' Mike Williams Doesn't Practice Due to Personal Reason amid NFL Trade Rumors
October 16, 2024
The New York Jets were without one of their top wide receivers during practice on Wednesday.
Per the New York Post's Brian Costello, Mike Williams didn't practice on Wednesday, with the injury report listing his absence as a personal reason. The absence comes amid trade rumors surrounding Williams after New York landed Davante Adams in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders on Tuesday.
After the Jets completed the Adams trade on Tuesday, FOX Sports' Jordan Schultz reported that New York planned to make Williams available for trade to clear up room in a crowded receiver room.
On Wednesday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reported that a trade for Williams is not expected this week, but to "stay tuned."
Williams, who has recorded 1,000 or more receiving yards twice in his eight-year career, hasn't had the best start to his debut season with the Jets. He has just 10 receptions for 145 yards through six games and can't seem to find a connection with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
In Monday's loss to the Buffalo Bills, Williams slipped on a route in the final two minutes, leading to an interception that ultimately sealed the win for the Bills.

After the misfire, Rodgers said Williams ran the wrong route.
"It's two vertical [routes]. Allen [Lazard] is down the seam and Mike is down the red line," Rodgers told reporters after the game. I'm looking at Allen, he puts his hand up and three guys go with him. So I'm throwing a no-look to the red line. And when I peek my eyes back there, [Williams] is running an in-breaker. He's got to be on the red line. It's the little things every single time."
Williams has the third-most receiving yards among Jets' wide receivers this season behind Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard. With Adams now in the mix, Williams' number will be called even less often, indicating a trade might be best for both parties.
Whether his absence from practice on Wednesday is a hint that he might be on the move is unclear.
