Jared Curtis Decommits from Georgia; 5-Star Prospect Ranked No. 1 QB in Class of 2026

The top quarterback in the Class of 2026 has walked back his commitment to Kirby Smart and Georgia.
Per On3's Steve Wiltfong, Jared Curtis decomitted from the Bulldogs on Thursday after making a verbal commitment in March. According to Wiltfong, Georgia will still be in the mix for Curtis.
Curtis, a Nashville native, is considered to be the No. 6 prospect and No. 1 quarterback nationally as well as the top player in Tennessee by 247Sports Composite.
In his statement on social media, Curtis indicated that he's received other offers since committing to Georgia but "could not consider" them because of his pledge. He also said he didn't want to field other offers while remaining committed to the Bulldogs.
"When I first committed to Georgia, I wasn't fully aware of what was to come, including the other options I've been truly blessed to have but could not consider," he said. "This morning I spoke with Coach Smart and Coach Bobo and let them know that I still love Georgia, but would like to take some more time to explore all my options so I can make the best, most informed decision for my future. I let them know it just doesn't seem right or fair to stay committed while checking out other programs. I want people to know where I stand and I've learned that making big decisions takes time."
Curtis has offers from a number of top programs, including Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Oklahoma and his home-state school, Tennessee. With his recruitment now open, Curtis will likely have a lot of coaches looking to land his commitment.

While potentially losing Curtis would sting for the Bulldogs, they are a perennial powerhouse when it comes to recruiting. They had the top-ranked class in 2024 and have the fourth-ranked class for the Class of 2025.
They have just two commits so far for the Class of 2026, but more will likely come flooding in over the course of the season. Smart will hope he can add Curtis' name back to the Class of 2026 for Georgia.
