Two weeks after being released by the Philadelphia Eagles, Devin White has found a new home with the Houston Texans.

The Texans announced on Wednesday they have signed the veteran linebacker.

The Eagles signed White to a one-year deal as a free agent during the offseason. He spent the first five years of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after being selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft.

White looked like he would be a staple of Tampa's defense for a long time at the start of his career. The LSU alum earned All-Pro second-team honors in 2020 when he had 140 combined tackles and nine sacks to help the Bucs win the Super Bowl.

That was followed up with White making his first Pro Bowl team in 2021 after racking up 18 quarterback hits and eight tackles for loss.

Even though White's stat line continued to look good over the past two seasons, his actual production wasn't nearly as impressive. His biggest issue was defending the run.

Philadelphia badly needed help at linebacker and decided to take a chance on White, but things never materialized for him with defensive coordinator Vic Fangio. He was a healthy scratch for the first four games of the season before being released on Oct. 8.

The Texans are thin at linebacker right now. Christian Harris is on injured reserve with a calf injury. Henry To'oTo'o (concussion) and Azeez Al-Shaair (knee) both missed Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers.

White gives Houston an experienced linebacker who can at least make plays in pass defense when his number gets called.

The Texans are looking to rebound after their 24-22 loss to the Packers in Week 7. They will host the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday looking to improve their record to 6-2 this season.
