Ranking Every Four Nations Face-Off Jersey

The Four Nations Face-Off coming in February will feature the best players in the NHL representing their home countries (four of them anyway), and now we know how they'll look on the ice when they do.

The NHL and NHLPA teased us on Wednesday with the promotional photo for the event but came through on Thursday with a full look at each of the jerseys for the United States, Canada, Sweden and Finland. All four countries have classic looks for hockey jerseys, traditionally speaking, and now it's time to cast our judgments.

We're ranking all four jerseys from least favorite to the absolute best-looking sweater of the bunch. We know you're going to disagree, and that's why we've got a comment section for you to let us know.

We're going to do our best to not let our own loyalties sway our choices here and be as objective as possible because, as you all know, hockey jersey fashion is very serious business.

4. Finland

Regretfully so, we're ranking Finland fourth out of four here. We say "regretfully" because, in Finland's long history of sweaters, they've traditionally had one of the best looks in any tournament.

The Finnish lion crest is fantastic, and the color scheme is such a big winner that the Utah Hockey Club has virtually the same combination of blues and white.

But we've been spoiled in the past by Finland's jerseys. Think back to 2014, the last Olympics when the NHL players participated when the Finns took the ice wearing what was essentially the flag of Finland:

What a rad look that was for Finland, and what they're rocking for the Four Nations Face-Off, in comparison, is a huge letdown. We like the intricate design on the sleeves and we're always a fan of seeing "SUOMI" written proudly somewhere on the front. But we've seen better Finland jerseys before, and we'll see better ones in the future. This one is just kind of plain.

3. USA

This Team USA jersey is pretty good, and we're not saying that because we've got the red, white and blue coursing through our veins here.

Having "USA" big and bold on the front hammers home who they are and evokes a kind of Captain America-meets-Superman kind of feel to it with the design of the letters. There are all kinds of little things going on with this with the double stripes in even-darker blue or black on the body of the jersey and there's even more going on with the white stripe on the sleeve.

The most important thing for any Team USA hockey jersey is to not do too much to make it distracting to look at. Mission: accomplished.

While it would've been really easy to go with the ultra-perfect 1960 throwback they've used for various international tournaments (see below), doing something new like this works out great.

2. Sweden

There are a few things that you can count on with international hockey jerseys, and one of the biggest is that Sweden will rock the "tre kronor" at all times. They didn't disappoint this time around.

The gold jersey with three dark blue crowns on the front was expected. What makes this version a lot cooler to look at are the intricate designs on the crowns. We've seen this kind of work with crests become more popular in recent years, and using it to make a crown look even more regal is fantastic.

This is a great way to make a tried-and-true classic look stand out in a new way that doesn't make anyone hide their eyes and wonder what in the world they were thinking. You don't mess with perfect, and Sweden's jerseys are always perfect.

"So why aren't they No. 1 then?!"

    Well, you see...

1. Canada

This is why Sweden doesn't get No. 1, because Canada's jerseys are spot-on perfection.

It's a new look that is reminiscent of something from the past and every bit of this makes you start humming "O, Canada" in your head while clamoring for a poutine while watching an episode of Letterkenny or Shoresy. It's so Canadian it'll make you say, "sorry" out of nowhere, but this jersey is unapologetically all-Canada.

It's red and white with a little bit of black just the way Canada has suited up for the past couple of decades. It's got the big, red maple leaf on the front with "CANADA" written across it as if you didn't know what a big, red maple leaf was going to represent anyway. The red and white stripes beneath the logo are super and the embedded string of maple leaves going around the middle red stripe

It's perfect and they're going to sell a zillion of these jerseys across Canada with "Crosby" or "McDavid" or "Marner" or any of the other superstars they'll have out there gunning for the title in February.
