MLB Gold Glove Awards 2024: Full List of Winners and Reaction
November 4, 2024
The 2024 MLB Gold Glove winners in the American League and National League were announced on Sunday night.
The 60 finalists for the annual awards presented to the best defenders in the majors were initially revealed on Oct. 15.
The criteria to determine the winners remained the same compared to past years. 30 MLB managers and up to six coaches from each team voted from a pool of players in their league, excluding players from their own team.
Those votes comprised 75 percent of the selection total. The SABR Defensive Index represented the other 25 percent.
Here's the complete list of winners:

14 players became first-time winners, representing a tie with 2022 for the most in a single year since the awards were implemented. It's worth noting that the utility position was also introduced in 2022.
No team finished with more than two winners in each league.
Christian Walker, Ian Happ, Matt Chapman, Brenton Doyle, Steven Kwan and Andrés Giménez were the only players to obtain a Gold Glove after previously winning one in 2023.
Carlos Santana became the oldest position player to win their first Gold Glove, taking home the award at 38 years old. He also became the first member of the Twins to earn the honor since 2017.
Giménez secured his third straight Gold Glove after wrapping up another strong defensive season with the Guardians. He led the majors with 21 outs above average. Giménez also finished with 20 defensive runs saved, which only trailed Brice Turang of the Milwaukee Brewers for the best mark among all second baseman in 2024.

Turang also earned some hardware, as the 24-year-old also led all infielders with 22 defensive runs saved.
After leading the Kansas City Royals to their first postseason appearance since the team's World Series title in 2015, Bobby Witt Jr. took home the first Gold Glove victory of his career. In addition to his incredible offensive season that included 32 home runs and 109 RBIs to go along with a .332 batting average, Witt ranked No. 1 among AL shortstops with 16 outs above average in 2024.
He beat out 2023 winner Anthony Volpe of the New York Yankees as well as Brayan Rocchio of the Guardians.
Chapman won his second straight Gold Glove award at the hot corner, marking the fifth overall victory of his career. His 33 defensive runs saved were the most among all third basemen in the majors.
Chapman became the fifth active player to win at least five Gold Glove awards.
Chris Sale and Seth Lugo earned the honor as pitchers in each respective league. Sale didn't commit a single error in 177.2 innings of work with the Braves in 2024 (per Baseball Reference).
Along with Lugo, the eight-time All-Star also finished the season with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
