An entire generation of fans grew up associating Thanksgiving football and traditions with the legendary John Madden, so it is only fitting Prime Video is releasing the exclusive It's in the Game: Madden NFL docuseries on Nov. 26.

Prime Video released the trailer for the four-part docuseries Monday and announced it will be available Thanksgiving week in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

Releasing the series on the week of Thanksgiving was a nod to the legendary Madden himself, who announced 20 Turkey Day games and added to the on-field product with traditions such as the turducken and giving turkey legs to the best players on the winning team.

While Madden first became a football legend as a coach and then a memorable broadcaster, he also inspired a video game that made him a familiar voice to a new generation. The Madden franchise became one of the most iconic and influential video games in history, and its annual release remains a cultural touchstone every single year.

The Prime Video docuseries will specifically focus on that video game and its rise from its 8-bit origins to the worldwide phenomenon it is today.

It's in the Game: Madden NFL will feature never-before-seen footage from the EA Sports vault to help chronicle the game's journey and history. It will also provide a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the current EA Sports team as it works on the next edition of the game.

Madden's larger-than-life presence as a broadcaster helped shape the game's early success, as his voice, catchphrases and inclusion in the game gave it more of a realistic feel that was largely missing prior to its development.

The Hall of Famer coached the Oakland Raiders for 10 seasons from 1969 through 1978 and won a Super Bowl while reaching the playoffs eight times. He was a central figure in the franchise's move from the AFL to the NFL and found nothing but success during his coaching career.

That alone would have made him a key figure in football history, but the broadcasting career and development of the video game made him an icon. While he died in 2021 at the age of 85, his legacy lives on through the annual release of the game.

And this docuseries aims to capture the importance of that video game as it became a cultural institution.
