NFL Insiders: Haason Reddick Will 'Get Out' from Jets in FA After Contract Dispute
November 13, 2024
Haason Reddick and the New York Jets brokered a deal to end his lengthy holdout, but there are no assurances about his long-term future with the team, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Fowler reported Monday that "no deal is imminent between Reddick and the Jets."
"The Jets and Reddick haggled over his contract situation throughout the offseason, leading to a monthslong holdout and his agency, CAA, parting ways with the star pass rusher," Fowler said. "He promptly signed with agent Drew Rosenhaus, who helped get him into camp on a revised one-year deal. The sense from some people in the league is that Reddick will get as many sacks as he can and get out."
Reddick's holdout almost certainly proved counterproductive for the veteran edge-rusher. Instead of collecting a $14.3 million base salary, which was the payout in his original deal, he settled on an incentive-based contract with New York. It's doubtful he'll hit all of the incentives to get his full earnings back.
Recording eight sacks was one such incentive. Through three appearances with the Jets, Reddick has 0.5 sacks and three total tackles.
Playing time is another trigger. He needs to log at least 40 percent of the team's defensive snaps each week, something he has already failed to do twice.
Purely as a pass-rusher, Reddick is making his presence felt even if he doesn't have the sack total to show it.

It's hard to argue the partnership is working out as expected when the Jets first acquired the two-time Pro Bowler, though.
Along with that, projecting what New York's offseason priorities will be is tough when this season is shaping up to be such a massive disappointment.
Yahoo Sports' Charles Robinson reported that wide receiver Davante Adams wanted to know that quarterback Aaron Rodgers would still be around in 2025 before he gave his blessing to a Jets trade. Robinson, however, added that New York's ongoing slide raises doubt about Rodgers and Adams' status for next year.
Let's say Rodgers retires, for example. How much desire would the Jets have to give a big contract to Reddick in that scenario? They'd seemingly want to pivot to a full rebuild instead.
Granted, the 30-year-old may not be in line for a big deal on the open market with the way things are going.
