NFL Rumors: Jets Players 'Checked out' and 'Ready' for Season to End amid Firings
November 19, 2024
Things aren't looking good in New York after another loss dropped the Jets to 3-8 on the season.
With their playoff hopes likely shot, some members of the team are reportedly "checked out," per SNY's Connor Hughes.
"The result: The offense didn't improve, the defense regressed, and the Jets continued to lose," Hughes wrote. "Now, you have a team sources described to SNY as 'checked out.' Players aren't angry or annoyed at their 3-8 record. They're, as one person described, 'just ready for it to be over.'"
The Jets started the season 2-1 but lost five straight before finally picking up their third win of the year against the Houston Texans. That win seemed to have sparked new life in New York as the Jets offense started clicking, but a 31-6 blowout loss to the Arizona Cardinals the following week showed no signs of things turning around.
The Jets lost their latest matchup against the Indianapolis Colts 28-27.
New York made a drastic change early in the season, firing head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start, but it became evident soon after that Saleh was far from the only problem for the Jets.
On Tuesday, New York made another leadership change, this time parting ways with general manager Joe Douglas. The Jets were 30-64 during Douglas' time at the helm.
When Aaron Rodgers joined the Jets ahead of the 2022 season, there were hopes the legendary quarterback could finally take New York to the promised land. There was even more hope after the Jets traded for Davante Adams earlier this season.
Amid the changes to the coaching staff and front office, changes on the field could be coming as well. Hughes noted that New York "prefers to move on from Rodgers," which would mark the end of a failed experiment and the Jets would essentially start their rebuild over.
