NFL Rumors: Lions DC Aaron Glenn Linked to Jets, Saints HC Openings amid Recent Buzz
December 6, 2024
Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn is expected to draw interest from the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints as a head coach, according to The MMQB's Albert Breer.
"He's got connections to both the Jets and the Saints," Breer explained on Thursday. "He played for the Jets, he coached for the Saints, I'd expect both of those teams to have interest in him."
The Jets fired former head coach Robert Saleh following their 2-3 start on Oct. 8, while the Saints parted ways with Dennis Allen on Nov. 4 after losing seven games in a row.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler previously reported on Nov. 13 that Glenn has been "generating more NFL buzz than in the past."
After spending 15 years in the league during his playing days, with his first eight seasons as a member of the Jets, he became part of the Cleveland Browns' staff as an assistant coach in 2014. He later joined New Orleans as the team's defensive backs coach in 2016, spending five years in the role before taking over as Detroit's defensive coordinator ahead of the 2021 season.
While the Lions struggled during his first season with the organization, they've gradually improved under Glenn. In fact, Detroit's scoring defense has improved in each year since he assumed the position.
This includes the 2024 season, as the Lions rank No. 2 among NFL teams by allowing a mere 16.9 points per game. Detroit also owns the league's fifth-best run defense and its 19 takeaways are the seventh-most league-wide.
Glenn has been a head coaching candidate in the past. He completed interviews with the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Washington Commanders for their respective vacancies over the offseason.
While he ultimately wasn't chosen for the positions, he's expected to remain a coveted option for teams during the 2025 offseason.
