The fantasy football regular season is winding down in some leagues, making every player in one's lineup that much more important. With injuries adversely affecting rosters across the NFL, the same issues face fantasy managers hoping to field the best team possible to avoid missing out on the playoffs.

Navigation of the waiver wire becomes key and amid such injuries, there are several options managers should consider as replacements.

One is starting a game for the first time in his career. Another is a veteran quarterback considered washed by some but riding a wave of momentum and a team that is among the best in the AFC.

Who are they and why do they deserve starting consideration this week? Find out with this preview.

Isaac Guerendo, RB, San Francisco 49ers

The loss of Christian McCaffrey and Jordan Mason to the IR with season-ending injuries has created an opening for Guerendo to we start Sunday against the Bears in a game that could shape the rest of the defending NFC Champions' season.

The Bears have the 21st-ranked defense against opposing running backs and give up 23.43 points per game, meaning Guerendo will have ample opportunity to show out in his first career start.

In his limited play this year, Guerendo has a 9.5 percent explosive run rate, a 21 percent missed tackle rate, and 2.33 yards after contact per attempt.

Considering the Bears give up 23.43 points per game, and a San Francisco offense that prefers everything operate off of the run game, Guerendo could be one of the big surprises from Sunday's games.

Guerendo is available in 89 percent of Yahoo leagues and just 26 percent of ESPN, so act fast, especially if you have a team in the latter.

Elijah Moore, WR, Cleveland Browns

DENVER, CO - DECEMBER 2: Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (3), right, celebrates his third quarter touchdown with teammate wide receiver Elijah Moore (8), left, during the second half of the game at Empower Field at Mile High on December 2, 2024 in Denver, Colorado. Jeudy hauled in nine catches for 235 yards, the most yardage ever surrendered by the Broncos to an opposing receiver. When he raced past Levi Wallace for a 70-yard third-quarter touchdown, he paused on the goal line, fell over backward into the end zone and then goaded the crowd as they booed him loudly. Jeudy told a Cleveland reporter he wanted to return to Denver and whip their (butt) and then put together a career night. The Broncos beat the Browns 41-32. (Photo by Helen H. Moore has not been a steady fantasy factor all season and a match-up against the Pittsburgh Steelers would not seem to be the ideal time to start him. Managers in deeper leagues or in need of receiver help should consider Moore, who has seen his production improve since Week 8.

Against Denver in Monday night's shootout of a game, Moore caught eight balls for 111 yards, an average of 13.9 yards per reception. He has enjoyed a 21.5 percent target share and 23.4 percent first-read share.

Moore has finished with double-digit points in two of his last three games and though the Steelers are a tough ask for any receiver at this point, Winston's gunslinger mentality will see Moore have his chances to beat Pittsburgh's coverage.

Available in 92 percent of Yahoo leagues and 79 percent of ESPN leagues, Moore is a player who should be on managers' radars as a potential replacement for under-performing wideouts and those looking for a substitute for Malik Nabers, who remains questionable for the Giants' game Sunday against New Orleans.

Russell Wilson, QB, Pittsburgh Steelers

The perceptions of Russell Wilson's demise as a starting quarterback in the NFL were greatly exaggerated as the veteran and former Super Bowl winner has finished in the top 10 at his position three times since Week 7 and is coming off a monster game against Cincinnati.

Wilson has hurled 10 touchdowns to just three interceptions since taking over the starting job and has achieved double-digit points in every start but one. He topped 400 yards in Week 13 against the Bengals and with the Browns coming to town and giving up 16.37 points to opposing quarterbacks in 2024, that trend should continue.

The former Seahawk and Bronco has been a key contributor to Pittsburgh's 9-3 start and what appears to be one of the best teams in the AFC.

He is definitely worth a consideration from managers looking to replace the injured Trevor Lawrence and can be had in 78 percent of Yahoo and 45 percent of ESPN leagues.
