After taking offers from other apparel providers, the NFL and Nike have decided to extend their partnership.

The league announced on Wednesday a 13-year contract extension that will keep Nike as the official uniform provider for the NFL.

The NFL announces a 13-year extension with Nike to continue as its uniform partner. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell: "It's one of those rare deals that actually touches the game."

The NFL's previous deal with Nike ran through the 2027 season, but the league had started listening to offers from other apparel designers to be its next uniform provider.

In October, Ben Fischer of the Sports Business Journal reported discussions were "open and active" with "several" companies at least vying to be considered.

Fischer did note the belief at the time was Nike had the "inside track" to retain uniform rights.

After the new deal was announced on Wednesday, Fischer reported the agreement commits Nike to help the league "export American football overseas by promoting the sport and athletes in key markets" internationally.

NFL CRO Renie Anderson told Fischer that Nike also has non-exclusive rights to promote flag football in an effort to help develop the overall ecosystem of youth football.

"We want to make sure that flag grows everywhere and so if other manufacturers have the opportunity to participate, we want to make sure that that happens," Anderson said.

Nike has been the official uniform provider of the NFL since 2012. It took over for Reebok, which had been an NFL partner for 10 years.

Financial details of the new agreement have not been made available. The new deal between Nike and the NFL runs through the 2038 season.
