Raiders' Maxx Crosby to Miss Rest of 2024 NFL Season After Surgery on Ankle Injury
December 14, 2024
Las Vegas Raiders star defensive end Maxx Crosby is expected to undergo season-ending arthroscopic ankle surgery, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Crosby later confirmed the news on Instagram (h/t NFL Network's Ian Rapoport):
Crosby has been hampered by ankle issues throughout the year, causing him to miss a Week 4 matchup with the Cleveland Browns. He initially suffered the left high-ankle sprain near the end of a Week 2 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
The three-time Pro Bowl pass-rusher was already ruled out of Las Vegas' clash with the Atlanta Falcons on Monday prior to the surgery announcement.
Crosby is expected to undergo the arthroscopic procedure on Monday, which will determine whether further surgery is needed and how much damage he's suffered to the ankle (via Schefter).
The Raiders have already been eliminated from playoff contention, owning the worst record among all AFC teams at 2-11. Still, Crosby was in the midst of another strong season despite dealing with ankle issues.
In 12 starts, he racked up 7.5 sacks and 45 tackles to go along with five passes defensed. His 17 tackles for loss were also tied with Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end T.J. Watt for the most in the NFL.

Crosby hasn't dealt with many health woes in the past, as he never missed a game throughout his first five years in the league before the 2024 season commenced.
His name has surfaced in trade rumors with the Raiders missing the postseason for a third consecutive year, but he's denied any desire for a change of scenery.
Crosby has established himself as one of the NFL's most imposing pass-rushers, totaling 27 sacks and 45 tackles for loss throughout the previous two seasons.

In his absence, K'Lavon Chaisson and Tyree Wilson will attempt to replicate his production and slow down Kirk Cousins as well as a Falcons offense averaging 21.4 points per game.
