Scottie Scheffler Out 3-4 Weeks with Hand Injury, Will Miss PGA Tour Season Opener
December 27, 2024
Scottie Scheffler will miss the start of the 2025 PGA Tour season due to a hand injury.
"On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass," Scheffler's agent, Blake Smith, explained on Friday (via PGATour.com). "Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks."
The No. 1 player in the World Golf Ranking withdrew from The Sentry due to the injury but is still scheduled to compete in The American Express, which will begin on Jan. 16.
Scheffler is coming off a dominant 2024 campaign, winning seven PGA Tour events and earning his third consecutive PGA Tour Player of the Year award. He became the first player to achieve the honor in three straight years since Tiger Woods accomplished the feat from 2005-07.
The 28-year-old won his second green jacket at the Masters and also won The Players Championship for the second consecutive year. Scheffler earned a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics and finished with a 3-2-0 record during the United States' victory in the Presidents Cup.
He also won the first FedEx Cup title of his career.
"I think it's been a great year, it's been a fun year," Scheffler said after winning Woods' Hero World Challenge on Dec. 8, per PGATour.com.
His latest injury means that won't have an opportunity to participate in The Sentry, an event that he hasn't been able to win during his career so far. Scheffler finished in a tie for No. 5 in the 2024 competition. He sat four strokes behind winner Chris Kirk, who finished at 29-under overall.
The American Express, Scheffler's first chance to return, will take place at the PGA West grounds of La Quinta, California.
