Zach Ertz Earned $750K in Contract Incentives on 3 Catches, TD in Commanders' OT Win
December 30, 2024
Washington Commanders tight end Zach Ertz had another reason to celebrate his two-yard touchdown pass beyond the fact it sealed a 30-24 victory over the Atlanta Falcons for his team.
The overtime score put Ertz at six touchdown receptions, which triggered a $250,000 bonus in his one-year contract with Washington, per Spotrac.
His overall output (six catches for 72 yards and two TDs) activated two other bonuses. He's getting another $500,000 combined because he has eclipsed 60 receptions (61) and 600 receiving yards (610).
The overtime period is what put Ertz over the top. He hauled in three catches for 16 yards and the game-sealing score after regulation.
The three-time Pro Bowler is enjoying a bit of a renaissance on the field. His receptions and yardage are their highest since 2021, and the six touchdowns match his second-highest total.
For Ertz, pocketing $750,000 in combined bonus money is big considering his deal included just under $2 million guaranteed at signing. His base salary for 2024 is $1.2 million.
The 34-year-old has the opportunity to further pad his account, though that will take some doing. His next bonuses will kick in once he hits 70 receptions, 700 yards and eight touchdowns, respectively. He'll have a lot of work on his hands Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.
