Jets Insider Talks Aaron Rodgers' Lack of Influence: 'Doesn't Have a Pot to Piss in'
January 4, 2025
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers once had a great deal of power within the New York Jets organization, but it has reportedly gone up in smoke amid a disappointing 4-12 record.
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Rodgers "lobbied" for head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas to return in 2024, and once they were fired—coupled with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett losing his play-calling duties—Rodgers' "influence within the organization had faded."
As one source close to the organization put it regarding Rodgers: "He doesn't have a pot to piss in."
Before the 2023 season, the Jets acquired Rodgers in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers in hopes that he would be able to lead them to the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
It didn't seem coincidental that the Jets hired Rodgers' former Packers offensive coordinator in Hackett as OC before the deal, along with signing a pair of Rodgers' former Packers wide receivers in Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb.
Rodgers' tenure in New York got off to a nightmarish start, as he tore his Achilles during the Jets' first offensive series of the 2023 regular season, causing him to miss the rest of the campaign.
While he returned in time for the start of the 2024 season, Rodgers was 40 years old at the time and coming off a major injury.
Given his age, Rodgers' 3,623 passing yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season represent solid production, but it falls well short of what the four-time NFL MVP and future Hall of Famer has typically done.

It also hasn't led to winning football, as the Jets have won just one of their past seven games entering their season finale against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.
Rodgers has not given a definitive answer regarding whether he wants or intends to play next season, but if he does, it reportedly isn't likely to be with the Jets.
With New York searching for a new head coach and general manager, it will apparently try to wipe the slate clean at quarterback as well with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (h/t NFL.com's Jeremy Bergman) reporting last month that Rodgers returning to the Jets next season is a "long shot."
Earlier this week, Rodgers acknowledged that Sunday could mark the final start of his illustrious career, and he noted that he has "a lot of gratitude for the last 20 years."
Rodgers is under contract next season, so the Rodgers could cut or trade him in order to allow him to continue his career elsewhere, or Rodgers could retire at the age of 41.
That would mean ending his career on a sour note, but the failures in New York don't eliminate the 10 Pro Bowl selections, four NFL MVP Awards, one Super Bowl title and one Super Bowl MVP Award that Rodgers accomplished in Green Bay.
