The two heavy hitters went back and forth, eventually taking the match outside the ring, where Sheamus was blasted mid-air with a spear from Breakker after leaping off the steps.

Back inside the ring, Breakker delivered another rib-cracking spear to secure the victory via pinfall.

Given that it is the only major title he has yet to win in his WWE career, Sheamus has been in hot pursuit of the Intercontinental Championship in recent years, which put Breakker firmly in his crosshairs.

Breakker defeated Jey Uso back in October to become a two-time IC champ, and Sheamus immediately stepped up as his first challenger.

After they fought to a no-contest on WWE Speed, Breakker and Sheamus clashed with the Intercontinental Championship on the line on a November episode of Raw, but it ended in a disqualification due to interference from Ludwig Kaiser.

Sheamus then interfered in a subsequent match between Breakker and Kaiser, setting up an IC title Triple Threat of Breakker vs. Sheamus vs. Kaiser at Survivor Series.

Breakker hit both of his opponents with spears and pinned Sheamus to retain his title, but The Celtic Warrior referred to give up his dream of becoming intercontinental champion.

On the Jan. 13 episode of Raw, Sheamus and Kaiser had a singles match, and Breakker looked on from the front row.

After Sheamus was victorious, he and Breakker had a confrontation, which ended with Bron shoving the Irishman.

Breakker later agreed to put the Intercontinental Championship on the line against Sheamus on Saturday Night's Main Event, and the bad blood between them continued to percolate leading up to the show.

Bron attempted to get under Sheamus' skin during a backstage interaction on the go-home episode of Raw before SNME, prompting Sheamus to push him, which got a laugh out of Breakker.

That confidence seemed to work to Breakker's advantage on Saturday Night's Main Event, as he once again got past a future Hall of Famer in Sheamus to retain his title.
